About Aleida Assmann
Aleida Assmann studied English and Egyptology at the universities of Heidelberg and Tübingen. She taught English and general literature at the University of Konstanz from 1993 to 2014. Numerous guest professorships have taken her abroad. In 2017, she received the Balzan Prize together with her husband Jan Assmann for their research on cultural memory, and in 2018, also together with Jan Assmann, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Most her most recent works are entitled "Der Europäische Traum. Vier Lehren aus der Geschichte” (2018) and “Die Wiedererfindung der Nation. Warum wir sie fürchten und warum wir sie brauchen" (2020).
