About Michael Maertens
Born in 1963 in Hamburg, Michael Maertens studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts in Munich and then worked at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Subsequently, he had performed on renowned stages, including the Schiller Theater, Deutsches Theater in Berlin and Burgtheater in Vienna. He has worked with directors such as Peter Stein and Alvis Hermanis. He received the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring in 2002 and was awarded the Nestroy Prize as best actor in 2005, 2022 and 2023. He also regularly appears in film and television productions, including “Das Beste kommt noch” co-starring Til Schweiger. At the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014, he won the Deutscher Schauspielerpreis in the category “Best Supporting Actor”. In 2023, he performed the title role in “Everyman” at the Salzburg Festival.
