About Wolfgang Niedecken
Wolfgang Niedecken was born in 1951 in Cologne and studied painting at the Cologne Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. In 1976 he founded the “Kölschrock” group BAP, which had its breakthrough in German-speaking countries in 1981. Since then there have been 18 studio, 7 live and 5 solo albums, and he has repeatedly been honored for his commitment to sociopolitical issues. His awards include the German Federal Cross of Merit – First Class, the International Beethoven Award and an ECHO from the German Phono Academy for his life’s work. In 1992 he co-founded the “Arsch huh, Zäng ussenander” campaign against racism, he has been an ambassador for “Gemeinsam für Afrika” [“Together for Africa”] since 2004. Furthermore, in 2008 he founded the charity organization “REBOUND”, which campaigns for the reintegration of former child soldiers in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
