A tale expertly told: The Wren, The Wren by Anne Enright. With Anna Schudt
For such a small country, Ireland has produced a remarkable number of great writers. Including, of course, the unshakable James Joyce, naturalized American Colum McCann, and shooting star Sally Rooney. One of the greatest has to be Booker Prize winner Anne Enright. Her works are absolute gems, nearly always bestsellers, and her literature has been described by the legendary Margaret Atwood as “witty, melancholy, shrewd, combative ... Enright’s jewel-studded language sparkles like fireworks”. Tonight we’re having our own fireworks show, when Enright presents her new novel, The Wren, and the congenial Anna Schudt reads from the German translation. A book about family, trauma, and miracles that grow from generation to generation, but also a meditation on love in all its facets: romantic, dark, spiritual. Host: Susanne Becker
