Children – a minority without protection. With Aladin El-Mafaalani and Mithu Sanyal
“Only a few people are as good at explaining societal developments and background as sociologist and author Aladin El-Mafaalani” (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg). El-Mafaalani has been conducting research into education, integration and racism for many years. In his new book, Children – A Minority Without Protection, written with co-authors Sebastian Kurtenbach and Klaus Peter Strohmeier, El-Mafaalani examines a profound societal change. In our aging society, children are increasingly becoming a minority. And parents of minors, too, are an ever-smaller proportion of voters. Together with the great challenges of our time – migration, poverty and digitalization – this demographic shift has far-reaching consequences for how children grow up. El-Mafaalani talks to cultural scientist Mithu Sanyal about how this imbalance affects our society.
