“[Donald] is everything, he is everybody; he makes the same mistakes that we all make”, said the legendary cartoonist Carl Barks. A magnificent volume, Walt Disney’s Donald Duck: The Ultimate History, has now been published. Edited by Daniel Kothenschulte, it brings together concept art, story sketches, background paintings and treasures from the archive. Film critic Kothenschulte will talk to the literary editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and passionate Donald fan, Andreas Platthaus, about the comic duck’s astonishing career and the wondrously multi-faceted city of Duckburg. Graphic artist and official Donald illustrator Ulrich Schröder will talk about his work on current Donald adventures, while creating illustrations live on stage and explaining how the beak, feathers, tail and emotions of everyone’s favorite duck get onto the page – still using traditional ink pens. This celebration of the temperamental drake will be hosted by Susanne Weingarten.
