We live in a day and age that loves arguments. Overheated debates, collapsing governments, social divides: Have we all become a bunch of squabblers? And if so: Is that actually a bad thing? A dispute does not necessarily need to result in the creation of rival camps and the rejection of discourse. On the contrary: An argument can broaden perspectives and bring about change – if it is conducted constructively. Two of the keenest observers of our society will discuss how productive arguments can drive societal change: Philosopher Svenja Flaßpöhler has written her own personal philosophical plea for constructive conflict in Streiten [“Fighting”]. Journalist Jagoda Marinić in her book Sanfte Radikalität [“Gentle Radicalism”] explores how we can leave behind the spiraling outrage that stops us in our tracks and instead proactively change society. They will be joined by Frank Plasberg to converse about conflict, society, power and change.
