Half the nation saw him for the first time in the film “Das Boot”. His big musical breakthrough came with the record “4630 Bochum”, which along with his 2002 release “Mensch” is still among the top-ten highest-selling albums in Germany. With lyrics such as “Gib mir mein Herz zurück / Bevor es auseinanderbricht”, he wrote German pop history. But who is Herbert Grönemeyer? How can we explain the force and the energy but also the consoling effect his music has? How has he managed to stay true to himself over the decades? And why do we see Grönemeyer, more than any other star in Germany, as one of us?
Based on numerous conversations with his longtime friend, Michael Lentz presents the first comprehensive account of Grönemeyer’s life and work, telling the story of this exceptional artist’s background and family. On stage, the two continue their conversation about a fascinating life shaped by music and literature, pop and politics.
