In good spirits: Maria Schrader, Devid Striesow and Knut Elstermann on invisible helpers
Literature has all sorts of good spirits who appear when help is required, supporting protagonists in unconventional ways. There’s the down-to-earth variety such as Christine Nöstlinger’s guardian spirit, Rosa Riedl, who was the first working class ghost (the others were always aristocratic). Or the secretive, majestic ones like the patronus we all know from the Harry Potter stories. There are ethereal nature spirits, elegant fairies and mischievous imps, not to mention diligent helpers like the Heinzelmännchen, who will be familiar to anyone from Cologne. Once you start looking, you find that literature is full of invisible helpers and guardian spirits.
Maria Schrader, Devid Striesow and Knut Elstermann will introduce to the most impressive of these beings this evening, reading texts by Margaret Atwood, Jakob Arjouni, Isabel Allende, Daphne du Maurier and many more. Concept: Dorothea Neweling
