In the midst of life – Barbara Bleisch and Volker Kitz on the time we have left
Everyone talks about becoming an adult or nearing the end of your life. But what happens in between? When lots of things, such as whom we love, where we work and how we live, have already been decided. When responsibility shifts as our own children grow up and aging parents require more attention. In her book, The Midst of Life, Barbara Bleisch proposes a philosophy of middle age that counters the cliché of the midlife crisis. She looks at the existential questions of our decades as adults, potentially the best time of our lives. Barbara Bleisch talks to Volker Kitz, whose literary essay Aging Parents tells the story of his father, describing the part of midlife that involves supporting and saying farewell to aging parents.
