On the trail of Orpheus – with Elke Heidenreich and the WDR Radio Orchestra
Hardly any figure in literary history is as closely linked to music as the legendary poet and singer Orpheus. His songs and the sounds of his lyre could tame animals, calm wild seas, move gods and soften the hearts of the dead. Under the direction of Ari Rasilainen, the WDR Radio Orchestra joins the great woman of letters, Elke Heidenreich, on the trail of the Greek hero who inspired countless writers and composers. Solo harpist Esther Peristerakis performs an arrangement of Gluck’s famous Orpheus song, “I Have Lost My Eurydice”. In keeping with the theme, Christian Dallacher has put together an arrangement from the musical “Hadestown”. And Marc-Aurel Floros has arranged Reinhard Mey’s “Ich wollte wie Orpheus singen” [“I Wanted to Sing Like Orpheus”] for the orchestra, along with “Song of Eternity”, composed especially for this concert.
