Underground – around the world. With Esther Schweins, Dietmar Bär and Thomas Böhm
The Ruhr coal mining region was the source of Germany’s wealth after World War II. A place where people worked hard and suffered their fates. An environment that spawned a special type of person. It is a unique place – and yet people here share a bond with others worldwide whose lives have also been shaped by mining at other times or in other regions. These “underground” connections will be conveyed to the surface this evening – with poetic, humorous and bleak literary nuggets from around the world: Lore from England’s Black Country, tales from the mines of Africa and Asia, stories from American coalpits and even stretching back to historical events, sagas and fairytales. Join us for this literary review of life in and around the mines in the Ruhr region and elsewhere, read by Esther Schweins and Dietmar Bär, with composition and commentary by Thomas Böhm.
