The great Irish writer Colm Tóibín is famous for his gripping storytelling as well as his precise and emotive characterizations. His novels, including international bestseller “Brooklyn” and its splendid sequel “Long Island”, are global hits. Now, the novelist is releasing his first collection of poetry: With the verses contained in Vinegar Hill, Colm Tóibín demonstrates his fine poetic instinct in this new form. In this collection, he provides personal insights and reminiscences from his childhood in Enniscorthy, Ireland, he wanders the streets of Dublin and Barcelona, crosses the bridges of Venice and visits the White House. And he turns his attention to topics such as mortality, religion and queer love. At this event, Tóibín will converse with Volker Schlöndorff, who translated the poems into German in cooperation with Michael Krüger. German Text: David Bennent; Host: Margarete von Schwarzkopf
