Wolf Haas is the author of the cult hit series “Brenner” and master of the ingenious meta novel (“Verteidigung der Missionarstellung” [“In Defense of the Missionary Position”], “Das Wetter vor 15 Jahren” [“The Weather 15 Years Ago”]). He’s betrayed so many people that he fears for his life. He stays awake in his cell at night, reading a book. It’s about Franz Escher. Escher’s been waiting all morning for the electrician.
